Pattern of Development Essay Draft

Prewrite, write, and revise to draft an essay using a specific pattern of development.

Please choose from one of the four patterns of development you read about in depth:

Process
Comparison and Contrast
Classification and Division
Cause and Effect

Indicate the pattern of development at the top of the page, before the essay’s title. The draft should be 3-4 pages long.

What’s Expected in the Draft – Understand the End Result First

An essay using a specific, overall pattern of development still has the same introduction-body-conclusion structure, thesis assertion, and topic sentences and units of support to explain the thesis assertion. However, the thesis should indicate the pattern via word choice, and the topic sentences and units of support should comply with the structure that the pattern establishes.

Please do NOT include research in this essay. Since you’re writing about a topic you’re interested in, you should be able to develop your own supporting ideas, explanations, and details. You should end up with a 3-4 page draft (750-1000 words, double-spaced, Calibri 12 pt. font).
