H Your assignment in this short paper is to write a popular science article explaining one of the heuristics and biases I talked about in Lecture 3. Please watch lecture 3 first before starting the paper. You can choose one of:
Availability
Anchoring
Representativeness
Hindsight bias
Curse of knowledge
Your paper should be written for a lay audience, meaning that you should not assume any knowledge of psychology other than what the general public could be expected to know. In your paper, you should explain:
What the heuristic/bias is.
The psychological process by which it affects judgments.
One piece of empirical evidence for it NOT discussed in lecture. That is, you will have to do some research into the literature to find empirical evidence demonstrating this heuristic/bias. This would typically be a controlled experiment but doesnt have to be. It does need to be from a primary source (i.e., an academic journal article). You should include any sources in a references section (note that this section does not count against your page limit). You only need one source but you can have more, if you like. (In your article, you dont need to cite the source in APA style, instead you can say something like Researchers at the University of Toronto found that)
A real-life example of the heuristic/bias that your readers are likely to find relevant and relatable (again, do not choose examples I gave in lecture).
