After working for typically 40 years, individuals suddenly find themselves in a very unstructured environment, with a lack of regular social interaction with co-workers, and at a greatly reduced income. There are many aspects to a healthy retirement during this stage of life.
What is your perception of retirement? What issues are of concern to those on the verge of ending their regular days of employment? What impressions of retirement do you get from the media and those around you? How have these helped to form your notion of retirement? Although this may seem like an eternity from now, what do you envision that your retirement will be like? What will you do with your time? How will you fare financially? How will you function socially? Is this a time you look forward to or is this something that scares you and which you would rather not consider at this time? How important is it to you to prepare yourself, particularly financially, for the time when you will no longer be working?
Write a one to two page paper addressing the above questions. Also, conduct your own research to find out about financial sources for retirement and whether those sources will be available to you when you retire. What is the average age at which someone retires in the United States. Also, what is the average income retirees have. Discuss in your response the problems associated with retirement and some of the challenges that retirees face in the United States. Cite three sources at the end of your paper in APA style.
