1. Pick one of the seven course objectives (learning outcomes) to research
2. Research the objective at the academic level expected of a university student. As an example, researching course outcome one, researching course outcome one, “Rape and violent crime: How are they defined and prosecuted? Discuss the substantive elements defining criminal conduct for specific crimes(Be sure to discuss the different forms of homicide.” I will expect you to define the specific crimes, discuss the specific elements of each crime, discuss how they are prosecuted and how the substantive elements of a crime are determined. In addition, you would be expected to distinguish between the crimes.
3. Analysis and impact. Here you explain the course outcome’s impact on the American criminal justice system and the larger American society. This is also the area where you, as an academic and future professional can share with me, the reader, how you individually view the topic you have researched.
You will do this by writing a three-to-five-page paper (double space, times new roman, 12-point font with one-inch margins; headers and footers do not count towards the length requirement). The paper should be in APA format. It will be named RP (student last name here). The RP is worth 100 points towards your final grade. All RPs that are submitted on time are eligible for editing and resubmission one time. What this means is that if you submit your RP on time, I will grade it, provide comments and return it to you. You will have one calendar weeks from the time I return it to edit it and resubmit it. I will grade the resubmitted RP and adjust your grade accordingly. Late papers are not eligible for editing and resubmission and will be marked down 10 points for each day after the due date. All papers will be submitted through D2L/Brightspace as a Microsoft Word document by the due date on the schedule at the end of this syllabus.
