Hamlet Critical analysis research paper

The research paper will be a critical literary analysis focusing on some significant aspect of an
author’s work in the drama genre. Various authors/works will be suggested (these are in the
textbook) by the instructor, and students may choose from the list or gain approval of another
play. The author/work you choose will serve as your primary source of the research paper, and
your argument will focus on how the author develops his work through characters, symbols,
irony, point of view, setting, etc. The student must narrow the topic he/she chooses and develop
that topic through an investigative process with a detailed examination of materials from various
sources. You will analyze aspects of the subject, gather information from secondary sources to
support your analysis, and develop your argument in a thorough and clear manner.
Through the completed research paper, the student will demonstrate a knowledge of his/her
subject and the form for an acceptable research paper:
1. The investigative process
2. Choice of subject and narrowing to thesis
3. Bibliography
4. Proper documentation
5. Studies of form
DETAILS:
Through the research paper process, students must produce the following sections:
 Body of report (with an original title and proper MLA heading)
 Parenthetical/internal citations (primary source and secondary sources used to support
your thesis)
 Works Cited page:
The research paper will be evaluated in four core objective outcomes—Critical Thinking Skills,
Communication Skills, Social Responsibility, and Personal Responsibility—and with three areas:
1. Content, 2. Mechanics, 3. Form
