Paper Details and Rubric
Title this paper with your specific identified universal theme substituted with no brackets: Spiritual Integration: Determining [Hope] as Universal Theme. The focus of this paper should answer these questions using ASERVIC competencies and a spiritual development model:
What ONE belief would conflict directly with yours? How? Why? What universal theme (noted in your title!) will be your way of radically aligning with this client?
This rubric will be used to grade your paper. You may want to use this information as a “Checklist” prior to submitting your work:
Please use these first 5 grading headings as headings in your paper! These should be bolded, using upper and lowercase letters.

Please use at least 4 references. You MAY use your textbook as one source yet be sure to use the original source when one is available (For example: “Spiritual Ecomaps” would be Dodge, 2000 NOT Cashwell & Young, 2011).
Your paper should be about 8-10 pages in length (about two pages per section) NOT counting your title and reference pages.
No abstract is necessary but you can include one if you are a bit shy of pages.
Remember that this is double-spaced using APA style. Sections 2-4 should be written in third person (no “I”, “me”, or “my”) tense with yourself as the counselor-in-training.
Spell/grammar check your paper and read it aloud before submitting.

Paper Caution! In your paper, do not presume that we need to be experts on religion and spirituality to attend to these elements of diversity for a client. This is NOT a report on what a religious or spiritual belief system is but rather a document that presents HOW we would align in a genuine way with someone who has an orientation that is very different from our own. We need to attend to our own values and beliefs so that we will not impose them inadvertently on our client. This bracketing is imperative even when working within a faith-based practice because our understanding of a shared concept may not be the same as that of the client.
