Compare the US and Texas Constitutions:
In the US Constitution, individual rights are listed in the first 10 Amendments – known as the Bill of Rights.
The Texas State Constitution has also listed individual rights, but they are not found in Amendments. They are present in other articles of the state constitution.
Your Assignment:

For each of the rights listed below, you are to:
1. State which Amendment in the US Cosntitution contains that right and then quote the exact words describing that right.
2. Then find and state where in the Texas State Constitution the right is found. Quote the words that the describe the right as written in the Texas Constitution.
You will see that the Texas Constituion is not written exactly like the US Constituion. So, instead of stating which Amendment contains the right, you will be stating which Article and and section has the right.
An Example is provided below.

Look up the following rights:

1. Right against unreasonable seasrsch and seizure
2. Right of probable cause
3. Right of no self-incrimination
4. Right to a grand jury
5. Right to assistance of counsel
6. Right to confrontation of witnesses
7. Right to a speedy, public trial
8. Right to trial by jury
9. Right to be informed of the charges
10. Right to to have witnesses in one’s favor
EXAMPLE: Right Against Cruel and Unusual Punishment
US Constitution: 8th Amendment – “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”
Texas Constitution: Article 1 section 13 – “nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted.”
