Please view the assignment guidelines in the document above. Upload the Focus Group Protocol Tool (word document) and PowerPoint Presentation.
Also, review the supplemental resources contained in the folder below prior to beginning this assignment. Note: The instructor has assigned each student a functional area of student affairs to use to complete this project. You must use your assigned functional area for this project. See the list in this folder for your assigned area.

STUDENT SATISFACTION ASSESSMENT PROJECT = 100 points total:
This project includes TWO Components: Students will submit an (1) assessment tool (i.e., interview protocol) and (2) Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on the assessment tool.
Each student has been assigned by the instructor a functional area of student affairs to use to complete this project. Students will individually create a student satisfaction assessment tool for an office or program in his/her assigned area. Please read the supplemental resources as these will help you develop your project. You will use a qualitative (focus groups) method to develop a focus group interview protocol using text and supplemental reading guidelines. NOTE: You must create an original focus group protocol for a student satisfaction assessment (i.e., interview) and may NOT use a previously created instrument from another source such as from the internet, organization, university, an article, another student, etc.
Students should create their protocol within a word document, which should be uploaded along with your PowerPoint. Students must use clear and effective communications in creating their assessment tool in terms of the phrasing of questions, instructions for users, etc.
Your survey should include:
Introduction – Tell your participants what the survey is about and why you are asking them to take this survey. Also, provide any specific instructions for taking the survey if needed. This should be found at the beginning of your survey.
Create a minimum of 10 questions. These questions should be open-ended (do not use “yes or no” questions. Be sure each question uses clear and effective communication. Since the assignment only requiring 10 questions, omit demographic questions such as age, gender, etc.
Thank you or closing statement – Be sure to include a thank you or brief closing statement at the end of your survey.
There is a good example provided on page 138 (Exhibit 9.2) in the Needs Assessment Supplemental Reading.
Part I: In creating your student satisfaction assessment tool, use the steps below to help you create your assessment. You will need to know the answers to these questions to create a meaningful survey.
Define the Problem (Problems are issues related to your assignment area and should be derived from the scholarly sources you review. Make sure to have a scholarly source to support your identified problem! – See the note below this list)
Determine the Purpose of Study (Remember the purpose will ultimately relate to student satisfaction concerning your assigned area).
Determine Who Should be Studied (this is your population or interviewees)
Determine What Questions Need to Asked
Determine How to Conduct the Focus Group
Determine How the Data will be Analyzed (i.e. qualitative data analysis)
Determine How Should We Report the Results
Note: SA 582 Graduate Students are expected to include and cite at least three scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article references that will support the purpose of your study/problem, and SAL 482 Undergraduates will cite one scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article reference. This information should be included in your PowerPoint presentation, but you will need these references to help develop your assessment tool.
PART II: Create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation which addresses each of the following concerning the creation of your group’s assessment tool:
Introduction and statement of the problem (be sure to include scholarly references)
Purpose of the study
Describe the qualitative methods
Describe best practices for conducting a focus group (when to use, sample size, interview structure, the wording of questions, and analysis)
Describe personal observations concerning what was learned from the exercise and
Include references.
SA 582 Graduate Students are expected to include and cite at least three scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article references that will support the purpose of your study/problem, and SAL 482 Undergraduates will cite one scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article reference.
All students will provide a reference list. In addition to the three scholarly articles, you may use course notes and the textbook.
Each student will create a presentation following the same sections as the report. All presentations should have a maximum of 7 lines of text per slide. Use a font larger than 20 point. Include a slide for references
SA 582 Graduate Students will have 13-15 total slides (this includes 1 title slide and 1 reference slide). *SAL 482 Undergraduate Students will have 10-12 slides (this includes 1 title slide and 1 reference slide).
Presentations will be scored on content, organization of slides, clarity of presentation, topic coverage, visual appeal, creativity, grammar, professionalism, and formatting adherence. Note: You will not actually be administering this assessment tool.
