In the last fifty years, the American diet has changed substantially and as such the rates of obesity have risen dramatically. As nurses, we will counsel patients on diet, and often also work to educate them on ways to help lower their weight as well. Often many of us see patients return time after time with conditions that result from poor eating habits.
How do you aim to educate your patient regarding healthy eating habits (do you use handouts, videos)?
What resources do you have at your facility for those patients who either struggle with chronic conditions or are resistant to changing their eating habits?
As nurses, and busy students, we do not often have times to care for ourselves, how do you best try to stay on track with your own eating habits?

There are countless OTC options, several RX options, and surgical approaches to attempt to improve or cure a person’s weight problem or related comorbidities.
There are currently three RX options for long-term weight loss on the market (Qsymia, Saxenda, or Contrave). After reviewing the mechanism of action of each medication, which do you think would have the best mechanism of action for long-term success, and why?
