a) It’s unfortunate that when people in power and wealthy people think that amassing wealth and, making policies that favor them will ultimately favor them. But like history has taught us its doubtless to say that lack of consideration for the low in class and those that work for the rich will eventually crumble the rich. The regulation to companies and governance that lays a certain good measure of control on the market allows for sustainability in an economy. balancing the status is very important to propel the economy and keep everyone taken care of. b) After reading the 10 rules on the future of the workplace, one rule that may have the most impact on my current or future work is rule #7. Rule #7 is about tapping into the power of multiple generations. The reason I chose this rule is that I am in an HR role and working with a large variety of different ages at my current job. I work with gen z, millennials, gen x, and some baby boomers. With a mix like this, it is easy to understand why knowing how to work with different generations would be helpful at my current company. Also, in other HR roles, I will almost always need to work with a mix of different generations at once and it is important to understand how to balance them properly. The importance of the rule that I gathered from reading the book is that the difference in opinions of each generation will help contribute to how quickly the workforce can work, adapt, and innovate. Each voice is important, some have gone through all the trials and tribulations already, others want to tweak the trials, and others have a fresh point of view/new ideas they can bring to the table. Your workforce may be hard to keep happy, but you can utilize the combination of ideas to keep your organization up to date and running efficiently. I can take what I learned into my role by making sure I am listening to employees when they give feedback. I can consider what may be important to those that don’t speak up based on their age and can keep the work environment a comfortable/safe space, employees will work more effectively, the majority will have a happy work experience, and I can help them prepare to collaborate with another in different ways. c) Rule #4, “Consider Technology and Enabler and Disruptor” will likely have the most impact on my current and future work. Because I am bringing a product to market, I require technology to help me in almost every aspect of business. We will likely want to use AI to answer instant messaging questions on our website, we will use an inventory management system to track all orders and returns, we will use social media technologies to market our product and analyze marketing data to target more effectively, we will continue to use 3D modeling and other CAD technologies to design products that are what our customers need. Allthis technology will help us streamline processes, free up time, make more informed decisions, and create better products. (2:9) (50 words)
d) The power of multiple generations was my second choice for this post! I’m glad that you brought it up. It’s interesting that it is not uncommon for higher-ranked employees to be younger than some subordinates, but it makes sense given the examples you have used. It’s also interesting to me as I think we are going to start seeing this happen in a corporate setting as well. From my experience, especially during the pandemic, some of the older generations are not willing to budge on hybrid or fully remote work. Not being willing to budge on a topic like that will end up pushing people out in the long run as our world is changing and people need to adapt. I am also excited to see how the technical aspect will pan out over the generations. Looking at millennials that grew up with technology and Gen Alpha that knows nothing other than an iPhone was always an iPhone will be interesting to see. (2:9) (50 words)
e) Why do you think US companies have been so lax in ensuring employee data is private and secure?
One reason could be is that companies pay a lot more attention to protecting and securing the data and privacy of its customers. Not that employee is less important, it could be because the threat is considered less since those who have access and have custody of these data is from within the company and any compromise is much easier to discover and contain. Cost may also be a factor. Any upgrade in any IT infrastructure and installing any extra safeguards also mean money. (4:9) (100 words)
f) What are some of the penalties for violating the GDPR?
National authorities may be prone to penalties and fines due to data security violations, as indicated by the general data protection regulation. The fines are directed to serve as corrective measures and remedies towards the violators. The breach of GDPR policies comes with hefty penalties ranging from low to high depending on the policy breach. For instance, a total of two percent of the firm’s annual world turnover, or approximately $ 12 million, and four percent of the organization’s annual world turnover or around $ 24 million for administrative fines.
