In this module you have reviewed materials detailing the experiences of Venture Smith. Based on your study and interpretation of those sources:
What conclusion(s) do you reach after reading and viewing the account of Smith’s struggle to scape lifelong bondage?
To what extent do you imagine his experience was unique? How much of its uniqueness, would you assess, is a result of the fact that there is written documentation of Smith’s experience?
Requirements: pay close attention
Minimum 750 words Double Space Word doc MLA Style
font – Arial or Times Roman 12 point 1 inch margins (preset in Word)
You are to write your paper in narrative (not question & answer) form. It should include a thesis and paragraphs with topic sentences to move to new points of interest/emphasis. It is encouraged that another review your work before submission. Often a second set of eyes will catch errors that you overlook.
If citing from the class text, a page number at the end, not middle, of the sentence is fine (121). If using an outside source, cite by placing a number (1, 2…) at the end of a sentence, then footnote or list it on an End Notes/Citation page.
DO NOT overwhelmingly fill your essay with simply retelling Smith’s biography. Obviously, you can sprinkle biographical tidbits where warranted, but assume the professor already knows the bulk of the story. Your charge is to offer insights/analysis based on the essay prompt. Mastering and making use of the class materials is paramount. Avoid loading your paper with chunks of material pulled from websites. Relying on the web, without reference to course materials (which often shows that you are not reading and viewing throughout the week), is fairly easy to detect and a losing proposition.
Attach/upload your Word document (only) to the Blackboard assignment page.
