What does the video say about all men being created equal?
Reconstruction was a very difficult time in American History.
One of the reasons that it was so difficult is that it began before the
end of the Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln was a man of vision and
wanted to reunite the Union as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, his
efforts were complicated by the fact that the South was not yet defeated
and by the fact that it was not entirely clear what the best avenue was
for restoring the Union. In the midst of this process, we will see
slaves granted freedom from their forced servitude. Yet, the South was
intent on not letting these men and women free access to equality.
Why didn’t the South want equality for everyone? What were some of the challenges facing the South?
