Term Paper
Economic & Historical Issues: Political and Ecoomic Effects on Mexico Due to an Extractive Economic and Political Institution Rather than an Inclusive One
Develop a fifteen page research paper that addresses one economic historical issue, not centered on the United States or Europe (except Ottoman Empire), covered in this class.
What is the issue?
What are the ethical or moral issues associated with it?
How does your study of the issue allow you to make connections with other global economic and/or historical issues?
Lastly, what is the legacy of the issue you are writing about?
Your term paper should cite the course text:
Citations of the course text of: Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson ISBN: 978-0-307-71922-5
one peer-reviewed article from a historical journal
one peer-reviewed article from an economic journal
one peer-reviewed article from a philosophical journal
If applicable, one news article from a non-U.S. newspaper must also be cited in the paper.
In addition to answer the questions above, students are required to self-reflect about the findings of their study. In one to two pages, and citing the course text or other research material, students should discuss how the research and the findings impacted their views about History and Economics.
The paper is required to use the following outline and structure:
Introduction Section (Discussion of Issue Selected)
Explanation of Ethical or Moral Issues
Connections with Global Economic and/or Historical Issues
Legacy of the Issue
Self-Reflection on Assignment
Conclusion
Paper desired content
I would like the paper to point out how Mexico once was prosperous, during the Aztec period, before the Spanish invasion. And how global inequality, and Mexico’s extractive leadership has continued to exploit the lower class to benefit only the privileged. Tie all this corruption and compare it to how Venice too was prosperous and then became nothing more than a “museum” for tourist as is now the case with Mexico. – I’ve provide some text content on the subject for reference.
