This week we celebrated the rebellion against the British Empire with the 4th of July. At the same time there are strong feelings toward the veneration of Confederate leaders and efforts to remove their iconography and names from Army bases. Discuss why the United States strategy to reintegrate the Confederate states back into the Union suceeded during and after the wary (or did it?) and why no one from the Confederate government or military was tried for treason.
There is no right or wrong answer and my personal views are irrelevant to this discussion. I am looking how you use historical facts to support your perspective.
