The queries should be answered in an essay response of at least 1250 words (typically five double-spaced typed pages).

Answer all parts of the question

The purpose or purposes of marriage.
Expectations concerning the relationship between love and marriage.
Attitudes toward extra-marital sexual relationships.
Who was allowed to marry.
Attitudes concerning divorce.
Part II: Elizabeth Brake in “Is Divorce Promise-Breaking?” considers whether we should see divorce as a violation of ethical principles as it seems to involve promise-breaking.
Brake identifies four potential positions one could adopt concerning divorce and promise making
Identify the central components of each position.
Explain Brake’s views concerning each of these positions.
In answering the above two points, be sure to provide short illustrative quotes from the reading.

The essay is to be completed and submitted by 11:59 PM on the due date posted on the course calendar.
Any essays submitted after that time will be counted as late. Late work will be marked down one-third of a grade per day late.
