Below you can see the list of a very simple and short topics for your first brief speech that is due next week Monday/Tuesday. Each one of you must select one topic and prepare a brief speech (from 2-4 minutes) on it. It is essential that you would NOT write the whole text of your speech, like you write an essay; instead, you must prepare the brief set of notes that will help you to follow your speech while delivering it. In contemporary extemporaneous method of a speech delivery speaker must keep an eye contact with the audience that would be completely lost if the speaker just read the text, making out of “public speaking” just a “public reading”. That is not your goal.
By now, you must become familiar with the required parts of the speech: Introduction, Body, Conclusion (check again Chapter 4, “Giving Your First Speech”and the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k60BDO8hpa4 ), so your speech, even being very brief, must clearly contain these parts.
As for delivering your speech, you will need to log in by 10 AM on Monday or, if you are working during the morning time, at 7 PM on Tuesday at the Blackboard Collaboraye Ultra (follow the Initial instruction to the course) and, one by one, make a presentation of the speech. If you would be unable to deliver your speech during our live session, let me know in advance sending the email, and I will give you another solution to deliver your first speech. Remember, in this course your actual speeches are the results of what you are learning, and they will be counted for 25% of your final score (check the course Syllabus), so make sure to do this presentations on time and following the speech-making rules.
