Research Paper for History class

For this paper, pick one of the six essay
questions listed below and write a paper in which you address that question.
The paper should be a formal essay. If you don’t know how to write a
formal paper you can consult the Purdue OWL You must use either the MLA
or APA guidelines for writing formal papers. Follow this Link for access to the
Purdue OWl to get information on both writing formats. (Links to an external
site.)
1. Note, the length of the essay should be from 4 to 5 pages. It
can be longer if you feel that is necessary to properly address the question.
You should have at least four sources for the paper. You can have more.
2. A title page and reference page do not count towards the total page
requirement.
3. Be sure to put a heading on the first page if you decide not to
use a separate title page. (Title pages are generally not used on short papers
(papers under 5 pages are considered very short papers)
4. Sources must be cited using parenthetical citations.
5. You should have a reference (Works Cited) page at the end of
your paper and on a separate page (;i.e. the last page of the paper).
Your grade is based on
(1) content
(2) analysis of the content or of the the argument you make if
support of your position re each question
(3) mechanics (i.e. spelling, punctuation, etc.).
The essay is worth 100 points maximum.You are expected to use your
textbook (cite it whenever you use material from it) and any other supplemental
materials you wish so long as they are NOT encyclopedias.
Paper should be submitted during the week of July 18th
– 23th. The absolute deadline for turning in the paper is July 23th by
11:59pm at the latest

platform of cutting the size of government and ending the Soviet Union by
building up the American military. Conservatives argue that he successfully did
both. Do you agree or disagree and why?

long-cherished goals of conservative politicians is the dismantling of much of
FDR’s New Deal. They believe that this will spark economic growth and force
people to be more self-reliant. Liberals argue that this attitude is what led
to the Great Depression at the end of the 1920s. Which side do you think is
right?

culture of the 1960s? How did it relate to the anti-war and civil rights
movements of that period? What aspects of the counter-culture do we see in our
society today?

During the 1950s the
United States went through what is called the second Red Scare. What
specifically led to that and how did it compare to the first Red Scare of the
post WWI period?

Arguably, the Civil
Rights Movement which began in the late 1940s and continued to the early 1970s
was the most important social movement of the 20th Century. Do you agree with
this position? Discuss the civil rights efforts of this period and compare Dr.
King’s approach to achieving civil rights for African Americans with the Black
Power Movement of the late 1960s.

The role of women in
American society has changed dramatically over the past fifty plus years.
Discuss the rise of the women’s movement of the late 1960s and how it
challenged traditional roles for women in our society. Tell me
whether you think that movement has been successful and where it was not
successful.

The Watergate Scandal
brought down the administration of Richard Nixon in 1974. What was this scandal
and why were Nixon’s actions so terrible that he was forced from office.
8.
The Vietnam Conflict was
the most controversial war in American history since the Civil War. What led us
into this conflict and what arguments were given by the Anti-War movement for
why we should have gotten out of that war? Do you think the protesters were
right or wrong?
