You will complete one formal paper for this class, which is a summary of an empirical article that is chosen by you.This assignment entails finding an empirical article on a topic of interest that relates to early childhood psychological development and writing a brief (2-3 pages) summary of the article. In this summary, you will describe the a) theoretical background, b) study design/methods, and c) results of the article. Additionally, you will provide your own critical assessment of the paper, noting the strengths and weaknesses of the study. Late papers will not be accepted.
A sample summary is provided to give you clear idea of the level of detail that is expected. Using PsycInfo (accessible through the school’s library page) is highly recommended for finding articles for this summary . Be sure to paraphrase and describe the article in your own words.
The article that you choose to summarize should include an actual study rather than a summary or a review article (the summary is your job!). Some good places to find these articles are journals that specialize in child development, such as Developmental Psychology, Child Development, etc… The important part is that it focuses on infants/children from a psychological perspective and presents some original research.
