Please only use sources provided. Traditional typologies of sexual offenders have classically been developed to provide a comprehensive understanding the deviant sexual behaviors associated with these offenders and assist with designing treatment interventions and/or supervision plans. However, a “one size fits all” model is incredibly problematic with sex offenders as there is no “sex offender profile” with which to base certain categorizations. Once viewed as simply “the dirty old man,” sexual offenders come from a wide variety of characteristics and heterogeneous population. Keeping this in mind, draft a response which addresses the following:
How have typologies of sex offenders evolved over the last 20 years?
Given the diversity among these offenders, what are some common characteristics that may be found?
What are some of the variables in these characteristics?
Do you think that sex offenders have more similarities with the rest of their community than they do differences? Why or why not?
