RE: Transgenerational Model
Professor and Class,
Bowen’s concept of detangling helps the clients triangle in sticky emotional systems when they are less emotional and therefore more
able to think clearly about them (Hecker & Wetchler, 2015). This writer would incorporate a genogram to determine how the client developed
their emotional functioning. A client that struggles with trust issues may have unknowingly developed this issue by viewing the dynamics
of his/her parents. A genogram will help the client describe the situations that took place, which led them to develop trust issues. Moving
forward the parents can also develop techniques to help in regaining their trust.
The multigenerational transmission process focuses on the variance in levels of differentiation across generations (Hecker & Wetchler, 2015). A
A genogram can help identify the chapter of life, where the individuals began to develop negative habits. The counselor can develop
techniques that will help the client remain focused on their goals and create healthy coping skills to help the client cope with the
disappointments of life.
Bowen hypothesized that people’s and sibling birth order affected the attention they received and their roles in their family
of origin (Hecker & Wetchler, 2015). A genogram can identify the relationships parents have with their children. The counselor
can develop techniques that will create a space for each child to feel that they are equally important. This may also prevent
the children from feeling obligated to play a certain “role” in the family, taking the pressure off the child.
In regards to the case of Christine and Rob, this writer would ask Rob who confided or if he confided in anyone regarding
the troubles he faced. This writer would also as Rob about his family’s belief system. This writer would ask Christine if she created other friendships
outside of her parents.
