Format: This assignment asks you to write an essay that fulfills two distinct requirements:
Summary:
First, the paper needs to contain an objective summary/introductory paragraph that explains the assigned work. At the end of the summary, you will include your opinion of the work. This is your thesis. The introduction with thesis should not be longer than one page.
A summary should start with a summary sentence that includes the author, title of work, and main idea of work. The summary must refer back to author/work and maintain present tense (Smith discusses, for example). Since this is a rather long article, the summary will need to be 2-3 paragraphs.
Analysis:
Secondly, the paper must possess body paragraphs that directly relate to the thesis and analyze the assigned work. These paragraphs do more than continue the summary; they must engage in the topic, message, and/or deliver of the message.
Analysis paragraphs must adhere to the following organization: Evaluative topic sentence, lead-in, evidence, analysis, *(lead-in, evidence, analysis), conclusion.
