Module 2 Reaction Paper
Module 2 Reaction Paper
In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to expand on what you learned in Module 2 by researching and then write a paper that demonstrates your understanding of 1) the models covered and your analytical and evaluation skills; and 2) the theories covered and their application.
1. Write a two-part reaction paper after you have completed the Module 2 readings.
Part 1: Instructional Design Models. Base your Part 1 write up on a) the Reiser & Dempsey (R&D) Section II: Instructional Design Models readings.
Study the rectilinear, curvilinear, and waterfall portrayals of the instructional design process mentioned in Chapter 3, as well as the SAM and Pebble-in-the-Pond models in Chapters 4 and 5. Then, either adapt one or more of these models for your own work context (current, past, or hypothetical) or create an entirely new instructional design model that best accommodates your situation. What components did you consider essential for your instructional design model. Besides the Reiser and Dempsey text, you should reference at least two other references, including texts from other IDT course. If these are online references, then cite them as online references in APA style.
Describe how you would implement your model for a learning outcome or training product. Provide the context and the target outcome.
Justify why your model is a good fit for the context and outcome,
Compare your model to the various other models described in R&D Section II.
Consider the following prompts as you write up Part 1:
What do you agree or disagree with the models presented? Provide evidence about why you feel this way.
How does your model compare and connect to the overall ideas of the module?
How could the information you learned be applied in an instructional or training situation?
What principles did you learn that you would like to incorporate into your own professional work?
How has your understanding of the various models changed as you developed your own model?
What are similarities across the various models?
What are obvious differences across the models and what would be the impact on the design of instruction?
What additional questions which you would like to research or answer as a result of your inquiry?
Your Part I write up must include the following components with a separate header for each section and in the order listed below:
YOUR NAME
DESCRIPTIVE TITLE OF YOUR REACTION PAPER
INTRODUCTION. Here you will describe how you selected and/or developed your model. Describe where the idea, concept, or topic you chose is located in the readings for this module.
IMPLEMENTATION: Describe the context and desired learning outcome for implementing the model, and how it would be implemented in this setting.
JUSTIFICATION: Provide specific reasons for why this model is a good fit for the context and desired learning outcome.
COMPARISON: Contrast your model to the various ADDIE, SAM, and Pebble-in-the-Pond models in Section III. State the possible strengths and weaknesses of your model.
RESOURCES & REFERENCES. List at least three resources or references, including the primary text, that you used in your paper. Be sure to properly cite these resources or references in your write up as well. Use APA style formatting. The Purdue OWL APA Guidelinesor theAPA Publications Manualwill help you create the citations in the text and the references in this section.
Your Part 1 write up should be double-spaced and be two to three pages in length. There should be one inch margins at the top, bottom, left, and right. Text should be in 12-point serif font, such as Times Roman. Include your name in the top right corner of each page. Use proper academic English and APA style formatting.
Part 2: Theories & Models of Learning & Instruction. Base your Part 2 write up on a) the R&D Section III: Theories and Models of Learning and Instruction readings.
After completing the R&D Section III readings, you will select two instructional goals that lead to simple, versus complex, learning outcomes. They are instructional goals that you select as examples. They should be based on simple learning goals, like simple declarative or procedural knowledge, rather than complex cognitive learning.
Address these questions:
How would the learning theories discussed in Section III be employed to develop instruction to teach the goals you have selected?
How would the instruction differ in each case? Be specific on design of instruction and how it is based on one or more learning theories.
How would motivation be addressed by the ARCS model?
Would one or another theory be more applicable to one goal versus the other? Why?
Compose a paper that describes what you researched as well as your personal opinions and conclusions on it. The paper should show your understanding of the learning theories, how it relates to you and to the IDT field, and how you apply instructional theories to specific instructional goals.
Your Part II write up must include the following components with a separate header for each section and in the order listed below:
YOUR NAME
DESCRIPTIVE TITLE OF YOUR REACTION PAPER
INTRODUCTION. Here you will describe the main ideas and issues that you will be discussing in the paper in order to gain the interest of the reader.
Instructional Goals Selected. Describe the simple and more complex instructional goals.
Rationale for Selection. Briefly describe why you selected each instructional goal to represent simple and complex learning outcomes.
Thesis Statement. Include a thesis statement that outlines which learning theories would be applied to each instructional
BODY. Here you will describe the application of learning theories to each instructional goal. This section should contain an analysis of the instructional goals and how you aligned them with learning theories presented in the module. You will also provide your own opinions, personal thoughts, and critical evaluation of the theories. Do not just provide a summary of what you have read. Be sure to backup your assurations with cited evidence and examples. You must cite at least three credible and up-to-date references. Be sure to support your thesis statement.
Consider the following prompts as you write up the report body.
What do you agree or disagree with the learning theories? Provide evidence about why you feel this way.
How does the material compare and connect to the overall ideas of the module?
How were the theories you learned be applied to each instructional goal? This includes the ARCS model.
What principles did you learn that you would like to incorporate into your own professional work?
What unaddressed issues, concerns, or questions emerged in your mind as a result of your analysis and application?
What additional questions which you would like to research or answer as a result of your inquiry?
CONCLUSIONS. Conclusions should briefly connect back to the thesis statement, summarize your main points, and clarify your opinions. Be sure to refer to the impact that the theories does or could have an impact on the field of instructional design and your own instructional practices.
RESOURCES & REFERENCES. List at least three resources or references that you used in your paper. Be sure to properly cite these resources or references in the paper text as well. Use APA style formatting. The Purdue OWL APA Guidelinesor theAPA Publications Manualwill help you create the citations in the text and the references in this section.
