When applying for a job, the process usually entails seeking a job opening, determining one’s qualifications for the position, salary, work hours, benefits, and location, among other considerations depending on our circumstances. Single students’ considerations may include temporary, part-time employment with flexible hours that suit their school schedules. Parents have the added responsibility of raising children and in some cases, caring for their parents, which means the need for multiple jobs or full-time employment in addition to attending college or other educational or career training. Despite the circumstances, in order to become employed, one must first apply for the position.
The purpose of this project two fold:
A. Research a company/corporation/institution in which you are interested as a career choice.
B. Go through the process of seeking a position (it can be part-time, full-time, and in any capacity), completing an application, formulating a resume and cover letter with the culminating experience being either an appointment and interview or a rejection response.
At the end of the semester (end of week 6), submit a 4-5 page report of your chosen company as well as your experience chronicling the progression of applying for a job through the interview process, in the event that you were offered an interview. Interviewing for a job is much like applying for college, it doesn’t happen often, thus, we don’t often have the opportunity interview. If, after you apply for the job you choose and are offered an interview, taking the interview is an excellent learning experience.
