This is the first step in developing your proposal. Think about what you would like to do as a research project—something very interesting to you. At this point, you need not have the study planned out. Your design will develop with feedback from me. For now, just think of a general topic that you would like to study. Then, in 150-200 words, write up a description of the topic as a sort of abstract, and give your topic a working title for now. Grading rubric: Thoughtfulness (5 points); Writing Quality (5 points). In your abstract, try to address most or all of the following items:
*Identify your topic—what you would like to study—in complete sentence form.
*Why would it be useful to study your topic—what do you hope to gain from it? …
*What value would your study have for others—how would they benefit?
*Which preliminary ideas do you have, if any concerning the type of study you would like to do? Do
you have any certain methods or techniques in mind? How about any theories you would like to
test, hypotheses, or research questions? Talk about them.
*If you don’t know yet, what do you need to know or figure out to pick a project?
*Discuss anything else you feel compelled to talk about concerning your topic.
