Discuss the four essential principles of ethics (Autonomy, Beneficence and non-malfeasance and justice).
Clinical case:
A two-week-old infant was hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit because of multiple seizures. He was the first born for both parents whose families’ history was negative for seizures. The seizures were controlled by medications and other diagnostic assessments. These interventions stabilized the infant’s condition and decision was made to transfer the infant to the level II neonatal intensive care unit.
On the third day of admission , one member of the nursing staff heard a sudden noise and observed that the incubator door was open, and the baby was on the floor. The on-call physician was called, and the infant thoroughly examined. No injuries were found. The chief physician of the department was informed, and an incident report made to the hospital administrators. All other incubators were inspected to ensure safety.

2. What is the responsibility of the staff in dealing with this incident?
3. Based on professional commitments, what is the duty of the medical and nursing staff in this event.
4. What are the ethical issues of patient safety in this case?
5. What are the legal obligations and consequences of this case?
