Discuss the role art plays in the stories of the Ephrussi family.

make sure its 2 separate papers. 2 pages each

Choose any two of the topics listed below, and write essays answering EVERY point mentioned in the topic. Remember to focus your essay around the book and the art in the book.
Your essay should be at least five full paragraphs (longer is fine!):
• Introduction with thesis statement
• Paragraph with one point/example
• Paragraph with second point/example
• Paragraph with third point/example
• Conclusion
Be sure you:
• Use examples from the book
• Explain clearly what you think and WHY
• Fully discuss your topic
• Cite as necessary, i.e. (p. 134) . Since you are using The Hare with Amber Eyes and I know that all I need is a page number for citations. If you use any additional sources, they need to be included in a proper Works Cited page at the end of each essay.
I will NOT accept plagiarism. Plagiarism will result in a zero for that essay. Err on the side of safety, and cite, cite, cite!
1. The Ephrussi family lived with art at a level that is quite uncommon. They lived with architecture, with fine art, and with fine craft. Focus on the various roles these three types of art play in their lives, using specific examples of each type of art, what role it played for which Ephrussi, and why you feel they chose that piece instead of another piece.
2. Discuss the role art plays in the stories of the Ephrussi family. Compare this with the role art plays in the stories of your family. Discuss where they are similar, and why as well as where they are different, and why.
3. One of the overriding stories of the book is how the Nazis took what they wanted, both from the Jews in general, and the Ephrussi family in particular. Discuss three of the ways the Nazis “took” work. Give specific examples for each. Then discuss why you either believe what the Nazis did was legal and/or justified, or why you believe it was not legal and/or justified. Include in your discussion the issue of restitution after the war – who should get restitution for items “taken”, how should the value be decided, what is fair both to the families whose art was taken, and to those who might legally own it now. Be sure to include why you have taken your position.
4. The netsuke are Japanese art. Throughout the book we see how the Western world perceives both Japanese art and the Japanese. Discuss examples where this cultural bias affects the understanding and valuation of Japanese art, including the netsuke. How and why does the understanding of the Western world change? How does this affect the value and appreciation of the art and the netsuke? How does this affect how the Ephrussi family in particular relates to the collection of netsuke?
5. The role of memories is crucial to the entire book. Discuss your perception of the role of memories and art as seen in this book. What part does art play in helping us form memories, and then in triggering them years later? Use specific examples from the book.
