Volunteer Service research

Service Research Assignment
Active involvement is a common theme throughout the FYE 110 course. Being active and engaged within your community allows you to share your time and talents to help others while helping yourself! How does community engagement help you? First, it allows you to explore parts of your city/town/neighborhood that you may otherwise overlook. Second, it forces you to network and build relationship with people who may be able to help in your future career. Third, if you choose somewhere to volunteer (in the future when it is safer) it is a great way to build your resume. Last, it will make you feel good to experience something new and/or help others.
This project normally requires students to go out and volunteer with an organization in order to get out in the community. However, it has been changed due to the pandemic. We will do research and write a short paper about 3 places you could volunteer at and then you’ll make a power point about the 1 place you would really like to go volunteer.
For this project, the student will do the following:
1. Research three non-profit organizations.
2. Write a two-page paper which discusses the following:
You will need to cover all the basic information about each of the organizations as well as anything you found that is interesting.
Include information about how they fundraise, the population they help, and how they help.
Include information on how to volunteer for that organization and what volunteers can do (volunteer activities as well information such as background checks).
Do they function at a national, state, and/or local level? Be thorough in your information. Include whether you will consider volunteering for the organization and state in the paper why someone should volunteer.
Explain how completing this project impacted you? If it didn’t, explain why you feel it didn’t.
There are so many great organizations, I can’t list them all here. If you are in doubt, ask me.
3. Choose one of the three agencies that you are most likely to volunteer at.
4. Create a 5-10 slide PowerPoint that addresses the following:
Title page with agency name, your name, date, and class.
Why you chose that agency and date you are mostly likely to start volunteering there.
Explain why volunteering is important for students (resume, networking, experience, giving back to the community, etc.) *don’t just list, explain.
How did completing this project impact you? If it didn’t, explain why you feel it didn’t.
Include graphics, images, pictures, clip art, video links, etc.
