Choose a multimodal text to analyze, in particular, a video. You can find videos on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. Videos can include:
advertisements
movie trailers
content creator videos
recorded arguments/proposals (like the Rogers, Rogen and Wahls)
Much like in the rhetorical analysis essay, you will analyze the rhetorical situation of this multimodal text in order to gain a fuller understanding about what the rhetor or creator is arguing about and how they are attempting to argue it with modes and genres they use. In other words, identify what techniques and modes of communication you believe the multimodal text uses most effectively to establish its goal or purpose (argument). Additionally, you might also identify any logical fallacies from that text if applicable.
You can also cite the Writer/Designer text you read so you can define in your body paragraphs the key terms your multimodal text makes.
The essay should be a minimum of 4 full pages. If you have no idea what to select, contact or see me first.
Assessment: You will be graded primarily on your ability to 1) summarize a text thoroughly, yet concisely in one paragraph 2) discuss specific rhetorical strategies (give examples) and explain how the author uses them to advance his/her argument 3) analyze the rhetorical features of the text and use this analysis to assess the effectiveness of the text.
