Purpose
In this Assignment, you will research blockchain technologies as part of your job as Chief Technology Officer for a medium sized (1,0002,000 employee) business enterprise. You will be presented with a real-world problem and will be required to use your research to develop a recommendation. Your recommendation must be well thought out and use relevant examples and data from your research.
Assignment Instructions
Imagine you are the Chief Technology Officer for a specific company in a specific industry (it is best if you select an industry that you have some familiarity with). To start your analysis, provide a brief description of the company and the industry.
Your boss went to a conference where blockchain was discussed. He thinks that this may be a good idea for the company and for the development of the new applications, but does not know much about it. Your boss would like you to research blockchain technologies specifically, and report back on what that is and how it can benefit the company. You know your boss well, and know that he will want you to take a stand for or against it, and provide a recommended timeframe (immediate priority, develop knowledge and skills in next 2 years, or wait until the technology has matured and the path forward is clearer before taking any action). Also, he specifically asked if blockchain was something the company would do independently or along with other business and industry partners.
Write a 3-page expository paper, not including title page or references, that addresses the following:
Provide an imaginative scenario overview of the company and industry.
Describe the basics of distributed ledger (blockchain) technology.
Examine how distributed consensus and encryption enables blockchain technologies.
Explore the probable use cases for blockchain technology and smart contracts in your company or industry.
Make and justify your recommendations to your boss as per the scenario above.
