Pension Systems

The
President of the United States is concerned about the gross underfunding of
state and local government pension systems across the country. The President is
considering whether or not s/he should ask Congress to pass a bill mandating
ERISA apply to governmental pension systems like it applies to private pension
systems. You serve as Secretary of Labor
and the President has asked you for a recommendation as to whether or not s/he
should proceed with asking Congress to pass a law mandating this change. The response to this question should be in
the form of a memo of no less than 4 pages and no more than 8 pages.

Submissions must be typed (double-space) and will be evaluated based on creativity,
completeness, correctness, and conciseness. Responses should be written as a
short paper/business memo with proper citations if direct quotes or outside
resources are used. Outside resources include any information not included in
the textbook, course lecture videos, or PowerPoint slides. Direct quotes must
be cited from any resources including the textbook and other course
materials. Please provide a list of
references, as applicable. Be creative
and utilize all course content
