What image do we get of gendered identities, and relations in South Asia?

I need a 500 word description of your intended essay tonight

Think about topics that have attracted scholarly and activist commentary, organizing, and political mobilization in South Asian countries. These may include: environmental activism, sati, the separate legal codes for Hindus, Muslims and Christians in India and other South Asian countries, rape, ethnic and communal tensions, sweatshops, NGOs and micro-finance, dowry murder, marriage, and female-selective abortion, war, violence, right wing religious movements, etc. You can choose one you like, and then address other topics through its frame. For instance, discussion of sexual violence can allow a discussion of legal codes of punishment of criminals, or the criminalization of sex related crimes in South Asian countries like India.
What image do we get of gendered identities, and relations in South Asia? What challenges confront the polities in regards to gender relations? How are these being faced by different social communities and the state?
What out of all these seems to be the most pressing issue/ recurring issue? What laws, policies, awareness has been created to address these issues? What have local and global bodies done? What have academic, official, government and non- government bodies done to address this problem? What are the hurdles? What can be done going forward?
