Kupferburg Holocaust Center: “The Concentration Camps: Inside the Nazi System of Incarcerated Genocide”

You will write, in MLA 8 format, a 3-page reflective essay analyzing issues of incarceration, genocide, and historical trauma in relation to the KHC exhibit and the graphic novel They Called Us Enemy. Supporting your analysis, you will utilize our textbook, any class VT postings and discussion, KHC exhibits, and the graphic novel.

Reflect on your visceral emotional response to the exhibits as well as the attitudes, beliefs, values, etc. that you think drove your responses.
Consider our course content on genocide, historical trauma, and history/ies.
Things to think about before and/or after viewing the exhibit and reading the novel:
What are some aspects to historical narrative that highlight or ignore these events?
In what ways has your interpretation of what is depicted changed or evolved?
What do you notice now that you may not have noticed before?
In what ways does this experience help us empathize with and understand the perspectives of those who lived this history?
Consider your responses to each text, as well as any considerations with comparing and contrasting them.
Things to consider:
What are the cultures from which you come that shape your framing? (im from nepal so please talk about asian indian community)
In what ways do groupings of in and out groups impact this?
What is your understanding of and relationship to historical trauma?
The dangers of revisionist history.
Distinguishing between the past and history.
Comparing and contrasting individual and community efforts to address historical trauma in cultural groups.
Be certain to incorporate ideas and concepts such as:
Peacekeeping
Cultural identity
Prejudice
Xenophobia
The ethics of developing intercultural competence
Just as a reminder: Responses are expected to relate to the themes, readings, concepts, and discursive practice of the course content, and not solely personal reflection.
