Essay 2: Visual Text Analysis
Assignment
Entertainment Weekly has employed you to write a piece, in which you analyze why your favorite feature film or music video is particularly effective in communicating its message. Compose a visual text analysis that provides an argument about why a certain film (or another visual text of your choice) is effective in delivering its message. Using the film as your primary source, conduct a detailed analysis of it and use outside sources. Questions to address include: What is the main message of this visual text? Who is the main audience? What visual devices (like color, symbolism, framing, montage, text, etc.) does the director employ? Do these devices help to effectively communicate the director’s main message?
Option #2: Alternatively, you may also create a 4-5 minute video essay that performs a visual text analysis on a certain visual text.
