Introduction: 200-250 words
What is the purpose of this essay? Have a clear Introduction – the purpose of the introduction is to present the content of your essay.
Analysis and appraisal of a scientific paper using a selected justified appraisal tool related to nursing in field of practice.
-You will be critically analysing / appraising the given research article (identify the article).
-You will identify the critique tool you have chosen and justify the reason you have chosen this tool.
– You will include a brief discussion on why nurses need to critique research and why we use critique tools/frameworks; using supporting evidence from the literature (Textbooks/evidence based resources).
Main Body: 1500-1600 words
-You will critique the research article using the chosen critique tool. This will not be in the question and answer format, you will need to structure this part into a discussion (You can use sub-headings if you wish) rather than a Q&A section. As with the formative please answer all of the questions from your chosen Critique tool. If some of the questions cannot be answered state your reasons, not just a yes or no.
Validate your answers i.e. if the research article states that the research is transferable, what does the research textbooks/research say about this? Was the methods/methodology appropriate for this research? What does the textbooks say? You are required to use literature sources to support your critique of the research article.
Conclusion: 200-250 words
The conclusion needs to show that you leave the reader satisfied that you have addressed the purpose of the essay and that you have followed through what you set out to do in your introduction.
It should offer a brief summary of the content of discussion and relating this to learning outcomes 2, 4 & 5 as a final indication to the reader that the essay is finished and the purpose of the essay has been achieved.
Have you demonstrated how to undertake a critique of an article using a critique framework? Looking at your critique, was this article strong or weak? Give a brief overview of the limitations of the research and recommendations for improvements for this research (would was done well, what could be improved upon).
