Instructions for Essay 4
Topic: Essay #4 is a Proposal Argument on a topic of YOUR CHOICE.

You must have at least FOUR (4) sources; at least ONE (1) of those sources must be from the GMC Library. You may use other websites as references; however, all sources should be reputable, usually with a named, credible author. Make sure you are using www.mediafactcheck.com to check bias levels (left or right).

It is best to stick to websites that end in:
.org (with exceptions)
.edu
.gov

And stay away from:
.com (with exceptions)
.net

Prompt: Write a Proposal Argument essay.

As you learned this week, a proposal argument proposes a solution to a problem. So, first you must establish a clear problem and then propose a specific, realistic, logical solution to that problem. As you will be convincing your audience that something should, ought to or must happen, you need to outline good reasons to support your proposal.

As far as structure is concerned, you should be following the process you used in previous arguments. However, make sure you pay close attention to this week’s assigned reading (Proposal Structure) to ensure all the pieces of the puzzle are put together.

Make sure your essay includes the following:
1) Present a problem that you feel needs to be fixed using evidence; this problem needs to be a topic grounded in reality, so please, no conspiracy theories (I use the fact checking site www.snopes.com)
2) Present a logical solution to the problem using evidence
3) Integrate at least four scholarly sources that have a direct relationship and relevancy to the topic
4) Refute opposing arguments: Address and explain why you reject other possible solutions or the idea that your solution would not work (at least one paragraph – I suggest the last paragraph before the conclusion)
5) Clearly integrate forms of appeals pathos (emotional) ethos (values/belief), and/or logos (factual) as appropriate

Requirements:

1) Clearly state your topic in the title
2) Clearly state the problem and proposed solution in a one-sentence thesis statement in the introduction
3) Address every aspect of the prompt above
4) Your essay must contain at least FOUR (4) scholarly sources listed on your Works Cited page that support your essay, One of which must come from the GMC library
5) Your essay must contain at least ONE (1) quote from each source with proper in-text citations;
6) Your finished essay must be at least 1,500 words

Additional Rules:

1) Your essay may not be in first or second person; it must be written in third person
2) You must use proper MLA formatting (including Works Cited page and in-text citations)
3) It’s expected that your paper will have an introduction, body, and conclusion
4) Do NOT use a citation generator; always check citations against the OWL guidelines
5) You may not use Wikipedia, Sparknotes, Gradesaver, or similar sites as a source
6) In excess of 20% similarity according to Turnitin; will cause youe work to be flagged for possible plagiarism and you will not be given more time without penalty
7) -10 points per day late
8) You will receive an automatic 0% if your work is more than three days late
