Section 1, PESTEL & SFAS (50 pts)
MINIMUM 3 PAGES, NOT COUNTING HEADING, CHARTS/ILLUSTRATIONS, OR CITATIONS. DOUBLE SPACED, 12 PT. FONT. ALL CITATIONS IN APA FORMAT. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE PENALIZED A MINIMUM OF 30%.
This section of your term paper is to be focused on the PESTEL and the SFAS (environmental analysis) for the case you have chosen. A copy of your PESTEL and SFAS must be included in this section, and you must refer to these analytical tools in your text.
· What are the current goals of the firm?
· Do you agree with them? If not, what would you suggest and why?
· Assess the internal and external environment of the firm: how important is each factor and why?
· What scores did you give each factor? How did you arrive at these values?
· The final paragraph of this section should be a summary of the issues you found to be important, and what the SFAS is telling you must be addressed in the next section of your paper, the TOWS.
Remember: do not make any suggestions for strategic actions in this section. If you need clarification on the workings of either analysis tool, the Term Paper tab on Blackboard provides detailed instruction on both of these, plus the TOWS chart. If you still have questions after reading these instructions, feel free to email me for an explanation, or to set up a Zoom meeting.
Do your own work. SWOTs, SFAS’, or TOWS’ written by other sources may not be used, and will be considered to be plagiarism if they are used in your paper. As always, citations must be included in text, using APA format. See the bottom of page 1 in this syllabus for a web link, if you don’t know how to use APA.
Section 2, TOWS (50 pts) Do NOT attach previous paper sections
MINIMUM 4 PAGES, NOT COUNTING HEADING, CHARTS/ILLUSTRATIONS, OR CITATIONS. DOUBLE SPACED, 12 PT. FONT. ALL CITATIONS IN APA FORMAT. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE PENALIZED A MINIMUM OF 30%.
· Produce a TOWS chart based on your SFAS in section 1, and include it in this section of your paper.
· Brainstorm possible actions that could strengthen the company.
· Be sure to include the factors you stated needed to be addressed in the SFAS.
· Refer to the factors you are addressing, what actions the company could take using these factors, and what you would expect to happen if each suggestion was implemented.
· The final paragraph of this section should highlight the suggestions you’d like to implement and why. These suggestions are the ones that will be expanded upon in your Implementation section.
A minimum of 6 brainstormed ideas is required. It is not necessary to fill out all four squares, but make as many suggestions as possible to increase the number of options to choose from for your final plan in your implementation section.
If you are not clear on how to use the TOWS chart, see the Term Paper tab on Blackboard for detailed instructions. If you need further explanation, you may send me your questions on email, or request a meeting to discuss what needs to be clarified. Please provided 2 or 3 times within my available time slots (top of pg. 1) that you can meet, and I will let you know which one is good for me asap.
Do your own work. SWOTs, SFAS’, or TOWS’ written by other sources may not be used, and will be considered to be plagiarism if they are used in your paper. As always, use in text citations where necessary in APA format. See the bottom of page 1 in this syllabus if you don’t know how to use APA.
Section 3, Implementation (50 pts) Do NOT attach previous paper sections
MINIMUM 4 PAGES, NOT COUNTING HEADING, CHARTS/ILLUSTRATIONS, OR CITATIONS. DOUBLE SPACED, 12 PT. FONT. ALL CITATIONS IN APA FORMAT. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE PENALIZED A MINIMUM OF 30%.
· Choose from the options you proposed in your TOWS to formulate a plan of action to make your firm stronger.
· Be sure to address the issues you stated in the SFAS as important to deal with.
· Develop these options into as detailed a plan as possible.
· Do more research into the industry: What has been done? What do you think is possible?
· Be creative, but also be sure that your plan is based (and supported with citations) in reality, and an extension, or a new course of action, for the firm.
· Continuing to do what they are already doing is NOT a new course of action.
Your suggestions should be definite: Do not bring up multiple possible courses of action, then leave them hanging. You must make a decision as to which actions/combination of actions would make the most sense for the company, and the steps that need to be taken to put your plan into place must be clear.
This is the culmination of all the work you have been doing in the three sections. Finish strong and get the best grade you can!
Final Draft (Term Paper 150 pts)
LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!!!!
Make your adjustments to each section according to suggestions provided by your instructor, add a brief introduction and history (maximum one page total), as well as a conclusion summing up the issues you thought were the most important to deal with, what actions you suggested, and what you expect would happen if the company took your advice. This is the time to polish up your work and put your best efforts into finishing the paper.
The final paper should have all citations combined into a single list and attached to the end of the paper.
Other information or analysis may be included if you think it would be helpful. Note that the emphasis of your conclusion should be on the proposed actions, the thought processes behind them, and the expected impacts of these actions.
