1. Take a small peice of lumber and, using various types of tools, such as a crowbar, screwdriver, and a hammer, leave small tool mark impressions in the wood.
2. Photograph the impressions and use some of the lighting techniques, such as side lighting with a flash light, to visualize the unique characteristics identified with each tool.
3. Using modeling clay or putty, cast the impressions for comparison.
4. Identify class and individual characteristics found in the impression of the model clay or putty and the tool used to leave the impression
5. Complete a incident report to describe the comparison and the list identifying characteristics.
