Write essay on the film “the farewell” by Lulu Wang.

What are these and how do they help you learn?
Cross-cultural learning can happen in multiple settings like interacting with people from cultures different than you and learning about lives in other parts of the world. Also, reflecting on these experiences help you see the applicability of course material to life outside of the classroom. Think of reflection papers as an exercise in stretching your thought process beyond your box. In terms of FSU requirements, they help you to achieve cross-cultural awareness (X series) and fulfill writing requirements (W or E series).
How is reflection paper different from a research paper?
In research papers you present a hypothesis, find ways to prove or disprove it through research & experiments, and analyze the results. In reflection papers, you go through an experience, and mull over how being in the space made you think and feel. Reflecting is like stretching your brain to connect the dots between what we talk about in class, what you experience during the cross-cultural experience, and how this learning made you more knowledgeable. You can also question if an experience really made you think outside the box or not.
What do you have to do?
You will have to reflect on the different documentaries/ movies you watch for class after we have discussed them.
If you are enrolled in the Global Citizenship Certificate (GCC), you can submit the same reflection paper on the GCC Canvas page separately within 10 days after attending the event.
What is the content of this paper? What questions must be answered?
Each reflection paper must answer these questions in in a paragraph form:
Paragraph 1: Provide a short summary of the film/documentary. Who is the director? Who are the main characters and what are their roles? Your response should be 100 words or more.
Paragraph 2: What are the main themes in the film/documentary? Which of these themes appear in the topics we studied in class? Your response should be 100 words or more.
Paragraph 3: Reflect upon one of the themes from answer (2) in detail. Explain what struck a chord with you about this theme of the film/documentary. Your response should be 100 words or more.
Paragraph 4: How does this film/documentary relate to the contemporary global issues? OR How does this documentary/ film open your mind to global interdependencies and need for effective intercultural interactions? How does this global issue personally relate to you? (This global issue does not personally relate to me is not an answer). Your response should be around 100 words.
Does writing matter? How do you get a good grade?
Yes! Writing well is key in any getting, keeping, and moving head in any kind of paid job you will do. Plus, this assignment will help you fulfill the W requirement. These things are important to follow when writing your papers:
Write in a formal (dry, boring, non-emotional) language. Academic papers should not read like an email, text, or conversation between friends.
Avoid common writing mistakes. These could include capitalizing mid-sentence, using texting language (LOL, OMG etc.), writing incomplete sentences, and using wrong terms for countries and cultures (like Columbia instead of Colombia or Islamian instead of Muslim, and labeling everything outside of the U.S. as third world).
In reflection papers, don’t narrate but reflect. These are different things. Narration is repeating what you saw, heard, and experienced. Reflecting is how it made you feel, think beyond your current limits, and whether you see connections between the class materials and practical experiences.
Does formatting (how the paper looks) matter?
Yes! Well written business proposals, policy papers, ideas fare better in the world of work than poorly written ones. So
Have a title page with your name, assignment name, course name and section, and the citation style followed.
Use Calibri font in 11pt (default) font size.
Write with normal margins (1inch on all sides).
Write in paragraph format, not in bullet points.
Use double spacing so I can write feedback clearly.
Cite your sources, both in-text and at the end of the paper, using the same citation style you listed on the title page.
This is a lot to digest. What kind of help is available in completing these assignments?
