Business Strategy Game – The Letter to the Board of Directors

*instruction for the assignment
Your letter to the Board of Directors is a summary/status update of your performance over the years you have been running the company. It should contain the following in the order listed. Lengths suggested for individual sections are ballpark estimates not rigid requirements. However, the letter itself should not exceed 5 pages.
1. A description of your decision-making processes/general approach to making decisions for your company. [Around a quarter to half a page for this.]
2. A statement of the different strategies you pursued during the game (generic, global, growth, Miles and Snow, etc.) and the reasons why you chose them (no definitions of the strategies themselves are necessary). [Around half a page to a page for this.]
3. A description of how you ensured your execution/implementation was consistent with the strategies you chose (give examples). [Around half a page to a page for this.]
4. An overall, retrospective internal analysis of your company’s resources and capabilities which results in (1) the identification of your company’s strength and weaknesses and (2) your intended/implemented solutions. [Up to a page for this.]
5. An overall, retrospective external analysis which results in (1) the identification of threats to, and opportunities for, your company and (3) your intended/implemented solutions. [Up to a page for this.]
6. A general description of your company’s performance during the simulation (as compared to other companies and as compared to investor expectations) and what you would change. [Around half a page to a page for this.]
Your letter is a summary of the simulation so DO NOT comment on every year, instead pick the highlights and lowlights as examples. Write it as a formal business letter, and use 11-point, Times New Roman font, single-spaced with one-inch margins. While the lengths of individual sections are flexible, the letter itself should not exceed five pages. Letters that do not conform to all the instructions above or that contain noticeable grammatical and spelling errors are not eligible for an A on the assignment.
