summary of the policy proposal you created from last week’s
Discussion. Make sure that your summary presentation provides a solid rationale
for the passage of your policy, using reputable sources from experts in the
field. This should be a simulation of a summary presentation you would make to
“real-world” policy leaders, so make sure you are succinct and
informative. You can include any visual aids that you think help your
presentation.

Jose is a 42-year-old Latino, heterosexual male that suffers from
substance abuse. He has a history of misdemeanor crimes and arrests over the
past 10 years. The majority of his six arrests have stemmed from his substance
use. Jose is also homeless and living either in the streets or in shelters.
Because him being homeless makes he vulnerable to more crime and easy access to
drugs and alcohol (Plummer, 2014).
Instead
of Jose being sentenced to jail time, the policy proposal is that be given an
option of substance use treatment in place of jail time. Jose will need help
with all resources that are available to him once he has completed treatment.
The trade-off would be that Jose goes back to
court after completing treatment to allow the judge to see the progress he has
made and look at possible expungement of his crime after being clean for a
period of time. Jose should also be given aftercare treatment and resources for
sober living homes. Jose will also need resources that are available to him. A
Social Worker will be an able advocate for services such as employment, health care,
housing, and support groups.
