Your task for this assignment is to write an academic review of the ethnography Real Gangstas. You are expected to read Real Gangstas select at least two themes* for comparison of the ethnographic depiction versus other scholarly research. Academic book critiques are a specific genre of writing intended to help inform scholars about the content and arguments of recent scholarly books. For this reason, a critique should contain more than just a summary of the book, but should also contextualize the arguments in the book and connect them to the work of other scholars. You will need to search out and use scholarly sources beyond required reading assignments, depending on the themes you choose. These sources must be relevant to the issues portrayed in the book. The ethnography critique should contain the following information:
A brief summary of the book’s organization and principle arguments, along with a critical evaluation of these arguments, with a discussion of what you see as their strengths and weaknesses.
A discussion of how the two themes you chose are represented in the book compared to other scholarly literature in the field.
A discussion about how the ethnography might inform/influence public opinion and policy/responses to gangs.
