Your research assignment for this class is a brief, 2-to 3-page write up on any person, place, or thing discussed in the textbook, lectures, and assigned media for this class. In the final week, you will be presenting your research to the class via a powerpoint presentation (at least 10 slides), prezi, or uploaded video (2-5 minute). Images and audio (when applicable) are encouraged but not required. I want students (you all;)) to take “A Closer Look” at something that piqued your interest.
Do you want to know a bit more about female artists in Renaissance and early modern Europe? Do you want to find out more about why Chinese imports were in demand during Europe’s Rococo period, or what impact this had on China’s economy and arts industry? What do colonial cultures look like and is it racist to appreciate elements of them? Your options are wide open here and there should be something each of you are at least somewhat interested in. Note: I have uploaded files of each of the assigned chapters and you are free to look ahead.
To be eligible for full credit, you must:
•consult at least 2 scholarly sources other than lecture, textbook, or assigned media (theseshould be scholarly journals, academic publications, or INSTRUCTOR APPROVEDwebsites)
•cite sources (including textbook, lecture, and assigned media, if consulted for our paper)appropriately—that means whenever you use information from them and/or quote them
•citations must be in Chicago/Turabian Style (See uploaded Chicago Manual of Style) End orFootnoesYour write up should include an introduction, body, and conclusion. It should be written in standard format (typed, 12 pt. font with 1” margins at top, bottom, and both sides, double-spaced body and single-spaced header, include page numbers, and utilize conventional grammar and punctuation.
Last, but certainly not least, I expect the work you submit to be original—YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND PROSE! If I discover that you have plagiarized and submitted work that is not your own, you will receive a zero on the assignment. I am pretty good at spotting plagiarism. I have found at least one instance in every class I have taught. That said, it’s not fun for me (actually, it’s a big, fat chore for me to research plagiarism). I’d much rather read your thoughts and see you all succeed:)
