WGSS – 280: Weekly Assessment
Throughout this semester, you will submit three assessments in which you summarize, analyze, and propose questions about our assigned material (readings, podcasts, films) for the week. This weekly assessment must address one assigned reading, podcast, or film; due dates are listed on the course calendar.
Purpose: For this assignment, you will compose a short response to the assigned material on the week each assessment is due. This assignment is to both ensure me that you have engaged with the material each week. This assignment also gives you the opportunity to digest your own thoughts on the material. Ultimately, how you compose the response is up to you, but I am listing some key questions I would like for you to address.
Required Components:
● At least 300 words, double spaced.
● You must cite ALL sources (in text citations AND end of text citations); you can use APA, MLA, or Chicago style citation.
● Direct references to the material are required.
Example: When discussing the history of the Equal Rights Amendment, Marlene Scott highlights that “…” (p. #).
● Please review for grammatical/technical errors before submission.
● For the weeks you have to write about a film we watch in class — if you cannot make it to class, you are responsible for watching the film and addressing it in your writing assignment.
Questions you can address:
● What is the purpose of the article, podcast, or film? What contributions to women’s, gender, and sexuality studies are the materials making?
● Who is the target audience for the article, podcast, or film you are writing about? Why?
● What did you learn from the material? (“Nothing” is not an acceptable answer)
● What questions do you have? (I will try my best to address any/all questions you pose)
