Liu uses the term “involution” to theorize the result of the Chinese hyper-competitive culture of work. Explain how Liu’s theory might serve as a lens through which to examine Jaffe’s descriptions of work-life imbalance in the UK? And what do your findings reveal about the relationship between Eastern and Western cultures of work?

Opening Hook (3-4 sentences)-Introduction to the main topic. Draw in the reader. Define “involution.” Show or tell?
Theoretical Framework (3 sentences?)-Introduce the authors and their texts with one sentence targeted summaries of each text. Liu’s article, “China’s Involuted Generation,” exposes the toxic culture of work that leads to burnout and despair. Many people think this cultural toxicity can be blamed on homogenous populations. However, Jaffe’s article, “Married to the Job,” shows that Western cultures XYZ….
Thesis (2-3 sentences)-Answer the question, but also make a claim for why it matters.
Body Paragraphs
Topic Sentence: Meet your reader with a claim. Your claim is your idea about something. Do not just repeat Jaffe and Liu. Something that extends your thesis.
Extension Sentence: Explain the topic sentence. Helps you to transition into the quotes.
Set up your first quote: In Jaffe’s text, she writes, “XYZ.” Cultures of work that revolve around food are “XYZ” (Jaffe).
Transition into the second quote with a close reading that anticipates what is happening in quote two.
Set up the second quote: Liu writes about chronic health conditions and suicide: “XYZ.”
At least 3 sentences that bring the quotes together. Talk specifically about both quotes–really using the words, being as specific and in as much of a direct relationship with the words and short phrases. Why does your connection matter?
Should be more central in the evolution of your paper
Conclusion
Do not summarize at all. Allude to your main takeaway after doing the work of the paper. What you wish was different. What limitations to your study are there? What work still needs to be done on this topic. Invite your reader to respond to what you’ve written.

Offices make it better for their employees. They have similar things but different.

Liu Says you should focus on your work, Jaffe’s article is focused on what happens when you focus on work too much.
Lose time in your life
If you just do work, you’re not going to have happiness
Doing the wrong type of work is not fulfilling or sustainable to your lifestyle.
Jaffe talked-about cases with different people-how their career was affecting them personally. Work and pressure- working on the pressure in Liu, they didn’t have the freedom.
