Context
In preparation for the final project, Part I of this assignment asks you to provide context for why you are interested in creating this project and your tentative plan for moving forward with. Part II asks you metacognitively reflect on the skills you practiced.
Big picture: This is a useful exercise to go through anytime you want to start a project, especially if the project can (or will be) funded by outside sources. Many disciplines and professional groups require proposals or research statements in advance of receiving money, support, or permission to begin the project at hand. Thus, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the general expectations of the genre. For the purposes of this class, I see the proposal as a way to check in with you on the development of your argument and offer ideas/suggestions to consider as you continue to work.
Task:
Part I:
Write a 400-500 word proposal that addresses the questions below. Please structure the response in paragraph form.
Why are you interested in pursuing this project?
What questions motivate this project? How does it engage, however broadly, the notion of contact and global streets? What will you be advocating?
What genre are you intending to work with? Why have you selected this particular genre?
What kind of genre requirements are expected and what is your plan for working within (and against?) such expectations?
What audience are you targeting? Explain why you’ve selected this audience.
What do you intend the project to ask of its audience?
What is your plan for distribution?
Part II
Write a writer’s memo that addresses the questions below:
Be 300-350 words
Explain how/why you incorporated (or not) feedback from peers and/or myself and/or a tutor and/or a family member
What risks did you take in composing this piece?
Briefly articulate 1 thing you think went well. Why do you feel good about this?
Briefly articulate 1 thing you want to revise. Why do you want to revise?
What are1-2 aspects you would like specific feedback from me on?
Identify at least 1 skill you practiced in this assignment. How might you draw on this skill in one of the other classes you are taking this quarter? In future classes? In life outside the classroom?
