The assignment is worth up to 50 extra points in the class. Two important things to know about extra credit: 1.) extra credit is only available for students who have completed all coursework (it is not a replacement for coursework); therefore, be sure you complete all required assignments in the course in order to be eligible for the extra points (you can submit the extra credit before the end of the course, but you will only receive credit if all work is completed by the end of the course); 2.) extra credit points are only given to submissions that meet all of the requirements for the assignment. I do not give partial credit for partial assignments. Points (up to 50) are given based on the quality of the work, and only for complete assignments.
The extra credit assignment is similar in form and format to the lesson writing assignments. The difference is that I am not providing you with the topic or the resources to use in the assignment. For this assignment you will: pick any topic covered in the course (covered in the textbook), find a current event article about the topic, research the topic further, and write about the topic. You must have at least three resources for this assignment (the textbook and a current event news story must be two of the resources). You have a lot of flexibility with the direction you take with the writing; I am simply looking for you to fully engage something that you studied in the course and have found to be an issue in our current news. All of the length and formatting requirements for the writing assignments are in place for this assignment. Do not forget to provide a parenthetical citation at the end of any sentence containing information from a resource, and provide a works cited page to provide full source in formation for the resources that are cited in the paper. Refer back to the instructions for the writing assignments for all other formatting requirements.
