The number and type of research sources you include will depend on your critical approach. For example, an essay that focuses on analyzing the work in its socio-historical context will require more secondary sources than an essay that interprets the texts through a specific theoretical approach (Lacanian, feminist, queer theory, intersectionality, etc.).
I would expect at least THREE secondary sources, but again, the number and type of sources (theoretical, critical, historical) should be determined by the needs of the essay.
· in your Introduction, describe your topic and how each work addresses the topic, and state your comparison in a clear, focused, comparative thesis statement
· in most situations, use Block Structure: discuss one work in detail, then discuss the second/next work in detail; when you discuss the second work, briefly refer back to the first work to reinforce your comparison
· support your ideas with examples and quotations from the works you are discussing, and from your research; when discussing a film, you can use quotations, but will likely rely more on paraphrase and summary
· reinforce your comparison in your conclusion
· use present tense, unless referring to a past event in a character’s life
