Optional: Vignettes
The following vignettes are optional questions. These vignettes are designed to give you experience with determining if an ethical violation has occurred and how the psychologist should have acted in the situation.
Vignette A: Dr. Gloat was a well-established psychologist with a very prestigious practice. For many years, he followed every ethical rule. But around age 50, something happened. Suddenly his hunger for money, cars, and a new lifestyle increased. He mentioned—discreetly of course—that he would be willing to sign the insurance forms and file under his license for therapeutic services conducted by beginning therapists who have not achieved the ability to file independently for a fee. His office mate, Dr. Shocked, discovered this behavior. Ethically, how should Dr. Shocked respond?
Vignette B: Dr. Begin recently graduated. He has many debts to pay and fears that if he does not start his practice immediately, he will keep getting further behind in attaining his life goals. He is aware of the requirements necessary to call himself a psychologist in his state but has decided do so without taking the state licensing exam. He believes that nobody checks these things out anyway and his risk of being caught is minimal. Is there an ethical violation here, and if so, what? How could this behavior impact his future?
