Assessment Briefing:
Students should submit an academic essay entitled ‘The Current & Future Collaborations of Music with Creative Media’. Students will choose a creative industry in which they feel music’s relationship can be further progressed. This can include (but not limited to) fashion, TV, film or gaming. Students must research existing relationships, highlight key figures and gate keepers within the chosen industry and suggest 3 ways the ties between the industry and music can expand.
Students should use a minimum of 15 different and varied reference sources in the Harvard format. A correctly presented bibliography is also expected. Any images used must be referenced, but will not count in the minimum 15 required. This essay is to be written in third person.
The relationship between music and another creative industry I am choosing to discuss is animation and music, specifically opera. The relationship may not be immediately congruent but further investigation illuminates the corelation between the two. They both look at inner reality from varied perspectives and attempt to transform the viewer through the identification of characters/heroes like Parsifal in Wagner’s opera of the same name, or Woody from the Toy Story franchise. The two forms of animation and opera are akin in the sense that they tend to draw from various art genres and look to create a holistic viewing experience by amalgamating motion, sound, form, space, and time to attempt to elucidate the nature of the ineffable.
