explanatory essay writing

Choose one of the following options to present your inquiry findings. It will be your ninth and final assignment, which you can submit using the content page at the end of the lesson:
A feature article for a magazine (~1000 words)—see “Feature Article Writing Guide”
An explanatory essay (~1000 words)—see “Explanatory Essay Writing Guide”
A documentary storyboard, which is a storyboard (it might be best to do an internet search for examples of, and tutorials for, storyboards) that uses visuals of people, places, and events to depict your subject (Laybourne and Cianciolo, 64-65). You could take your own photographs or use ones cut or copied from magazines, newspapers, web sites, or other documents. Collect as many as possible (at least twice as many images as you will need for the final storyboard), and consider grouping them according to some visual or conceptual pattern that suggests itself, such as size, colour, emotions, thematic progressions, distances, gestures, etc.
Your choice of informational text form, but you must have it approved by your teacher before beginning.
Your presentation must have the following, no matter which form you use:
A visual component of some sort—nothing extra if you are doing a video or storyboard, but if you are doing a feature article, consider including photographs or maps, or if you are doing an essay, consider including graphs, diagrams, infographics, etc.
A glossary of vocabulary and jargon specific to the language around your topic. For example, if your topic is ballet, you would want to include glossary entries for pirouette, arabesque, and tendu. Focus on terms that are especially relevant to your inquiry topic, ones you’ll use in the presentation of your findings. This can be included as a boxed text insert in a feature article, an appendix to an essay, as part of a viewer’s guide to your storyboard.
A bibliography listing all sources of information used in your inquiry and presentation in MLA format. Here is a good guide to an MLA bibliography.
